Some may have noticed that I have put up a few photos lately of my left little finger with what I first thought was just a small injury! I just want to give you a update on why I’m running around with big bandage on my finger.
Broken finger
On Tuesday the 21th of May I got car doored on Sydney Rd in Melbourne. I was riding to an appointment to my Physio on a street bike thankfully not riding my Ceepo carbon frame or at full pace. The driver in a parked car didn’t look before opening their car door and took me out. More >

It is always special to go into an Ironman no matter what the build up, but at the end of the day it nothing else matters except how you feel on race day. I felt I had recovered really well from Ironman Cozumel which was only two weeks ago. I knew this race could go either way, but based on my history of backing up pretty well, I was confident it could go really well.
At the start of the week I made sure I got all the right treatment and arriving late Thursday afternoon in Busselton gave me time at home to recover and prepare right. I am quite familiar with the area having raced Ironman Western Australia three times before so coming later in the week was fine.

We had an early start with a 5.30am swim start but coming from the east coast of Australia with a three hour time difference, getting up so early wasn’t that tough.
We had a beach start & when the gun went off, I had a great start and got on the feet of Horst Reichel but only managed to stay there for 500m. I led the chase pack out around the jetty before I settled into second spot to try and save some energy.
I had a great transition and came out on to the bike course in second place with a group including Timo Bracht, Josh Rix and Matty White.

Now with 70.3 Mandurah under my belt I have officially started my AUS tri season. Back in August when we decided to do this race, we
thought the field would not be so strong with Hawaii the week before, but as it got closer to the race the stronger the field got! It was also 70.3 AUS champs & good prize money up for grabs so I could understand the packed field.
I flew over to Perth & drove down to Mandurah (one hour drive south) on Thursday, so I had a few days to get used to the 3hr time difference & check out the courses.
Friday I did my swim in a pool, because shacks just love to be close to the coast in WA! I also did one lap of the bike course with Tim Berkel and in the evening I had a trip back to Perth to pick up Clayton Fettell, who was my wingman for the weekend because Aimee had to stay at home.
On Saturday I got some easy training done with the rest of Aeromax team who was racing & then tried to relax and get my body ready for Sunday.
